WARWICK rider Monique Dwan, a juvenile campdrafting award winner, will be contesting the Australian Stock Horse Society Nationals at Warwick Showgrounds.

Monique Dwan will compete in the Australian Stock Horse Nationals at the Warwick Showgrounds on July 31-August 1.

MONIQUE Dwan, who has won a major award in juvenile campdrafting, will be one of the Warwick riders contesting the Australian Stock Horse Society Nationals at Warwick Showgrounds on July 31 and August 1.

Co-ordinator Lorna Fanning said the nationals were held in Warwick in 2003 and 2006 but the event wouldn’t be as big this year as it was split in three.

“The youth section was at Gloucester and the maturity, futurity, challenge and campdrafting at Tamworth,” Fanning said.

“Warwick will host the show section and there are 200 nominations.”

There are led, hack and working classes on the Saturday and challenge events and campdrafting on the second day.

The finals of the South Queensland Management Council of the Australian Stock Horse Society inter-branch campdrafting will be held on the Sunday.

Dwan and Alex Barnet shared the award for the highest scoring juvenile campdrafter in inter-branch events this year.

She will join with Nathan Brown, of Killarney, in the top juvenile team from the Eastern Downs branch and do battle with teams from five other branches in the finals. Leticia Young is the Eastern Downs reserve.

Dwan said she was going into the final confident she could go well on her horse, the Zoe Bellingham-owned, Castleray.

“I started campdrafting at the age of eight, which is the minimum age, and look forward to the stock horse nationals,” she said.

She won a juvenile draft at Allora with a score of 86 on Castleray.

This year, the 14-year-old made the final 15 at the Warwick Show with a score of 87 on Castleray in her first open campdraft.

Other winning Eastern Downs teams set to compete are David Dwan and Kara Brown in the junior final, Neville Fanning, Errol Cooper and Glen Holmes in the open final. Dorothy Jephcott was in the open team during qualification but is unavailable for the final.

Competitors are expected to arrive at Warwick Showgrounds from Thursday.
