A search and rescue operation was underway in the early hours of Tuesday morning to locate and return two hikers after they spent the night in near-zero temperatures.
It is believed the pair became lost just after 6pm on Monday while on a hike near the Sterner’s Lookout trail of Main Range National Park, near Emu Vale 25km north of Warwick.
Emergency crews were able to locate the pair on Monday evening, however due to the terrain and loss of light, rescue efforts were ceased until morning, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology overnight temperatures in Emu Vale dropped to 0.8.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said search and rescue crews had successfully located the pair and had made it back to the carpark at around 6.37am Tuesday.
The QPS spokeswoman said the hikers appeared to be uninjured and were being treated by paramedics as a precaution.
