Warwick crime wrap: Police investigating after car burnt out following pursuit

Detectives are investigating after a BMW was found burnt out after a pursuit east of Warwick over the weekend, which was one of many incidents involving allegedly stolen cars and break-ins.

It has been another weekend of crime across the Rose City with break-ins reported across town, with property and vehicles stolen, with police investigating a chase which took officers onto the highway.

PURSUIT

• At about 7.30pm on Saturday night, a stolen BMW sedan was observed travelling east on the Cunningham Highway west of Warwick.

A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed, however the driver managed to evade police.

The BMW was found south of Warwick shortly after, parked with a fire lit inside the vehicle.

Police quickly extinguished the fire and made a search of the area for the offender.

Investigations are still continuing into the matter.

BREAK AND ENTER

• Police are continuing investigations after receiving reports of young males acting suspiciously in the Bisley St area and then, a short time later, in the Hawker Rd area.

At about 5am on Friday, police located a Toyota sedan travelling along Albion St which then sped away.

Police later received reports of residences being broken into in Floribunda Ave, Bisley St and Hawker Rd.

• At an unknown time overnight on Saturday a licenced premises on Hawker Rd and an electrical business on Wood St were both broken into and a quantity of property stolen.

• At about 11pm on the same night, entry was forced to a shed on Thornton Rd and a motorised four-wheeler was stolen.

The bike was observed being ridden in the area shortly after and was then located by police being ridden in the south Warwick area.

The rider was able to evade police at this time.

• Between 11pm and midnight on Saturday, offenders have tried to force entry to a service station on Helene St by smashing the front door without success.

CAR PARK CRASH

Police were called to a fast-food carpark in Albion St at about 8.30pm after calls were received that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle there.

A female was later transported to Warwick Hospital with a leg injury.

Investigations are continuing to find out how this incident occurred.

INFRINGEMENT NOTICE

At around midnight on Wednesday, an 18-year-old Warwick man was issued with a $154 infringement notice after allegedly being found consuming liquor in a public place in Percy St.

TRAFFIC MATTERS

• At about 9.15pm on Friday night, a vehicle was intercepted driving along Wood St and the driver, a 30-year-old Warwick man was subjected to a saliva drug test.

As a result, he was issued with a notice to appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court for allegedly driving with a relevant drug in his system.

He will appear at a later date.

• At about 2pm, a 20-year-old Warwick man was intercepted and breath tested after being found driving on Bourke Street. He will subsequently appear in court, charged with mid- range drink driving after allegedly blowing a reading of 0.110 BAC.
