Warwick crime wrap: Dog chain and slingshot used as weapons in reported assaults

Warwick police have been kept busy over the past seven days, after a woman was reported to have been struck by a slingshot in a bizarre assault, and a motor vehicle was stolen. Here’s what you missed in the past week.

It’s been another busy week for authorities across the region, with police dealing with car thefts and multiple alleged assaults with bizarre weapons in the Rose City.

Here’s what you’ve missed in the last seven days.

ASSAULT

• On Wednesday night, a Warwick woman reported to police that she had been struck by a projectile from a slingshot about 11pm in Market Square.

The victim required assistance from Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics but was not admitted to hospital.

Police are currently investigating.

• A 30-year-old Warwick man was issued with an infringement notice for disorderly behaviour on a licensed premises in Palmerin St at about 11.30pm on Saturday after allegedly inciting other patrons by swinging a dog chain.

He was later searched, and police allegedly found some crystal substance and a smoking pipe.

He will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court at a later date.

THEFT

• A report was received that a residence in Maynes St was broken into overnight and a Toyota LandCruiser was taken from the front yard on November 20.

This vehicle was later observed between Warwick and Toowoomba and was then found abandoned on the outskirts of Warwick.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

PUBLIC NUISANCE

• Shortly after midnight on November 20, a 27-year-old Banyo man was issued with a notice to appear for public nuisance after allegedly smashing a bottle and creating a disturbance in Dragon St.

TRAFFIC MATTERS

• A 27-year-old woman from Ipswich was issued with a notice to appear after allegedly being located at about 9.45am Thursday driving on Condamine St while being disqualified from driving.

• A 55-year-old Inglewood man will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court after allegedly being located driving on Cunningham Highway at about 8am on Saturday with a blood-alcohol level of 0.171.

Police will allege he was also found to have a relevant drug in his system

• A 23-year-old Warwick man will appear in court in upcoming weeks after allegedly being located driving on Grafton St at about 4pm with a disqualified driver’s licence.

• Also on Saturday night, at about 8pm, a 31-year-old Goondiwindi man was allegedly detected driving on Pratten St with a relevant drug in his system after a random drug test. He will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court.

• A 34-year-old Warwick man will appear in court after being random breath tested on McEvoy Street and allegedly returning a reading of 0.064 BAC on Saturday.

• A 23-year-old Tannymorel man will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court after he was located by Highway Patrol officers in Palmerin St allegedly driving a vehicle with heavily worn tyres and non-compliant rims attached to the rear of his vehicle.

Police allegedly located normal rims and tyres in the boot of the car along with a heavy-duty jack.

He has been charged with possessing things including rims and a car jack to be used to commit a racing, burn out or other hooning offence namely burnout under the

Summary Offences Act.
