A Warwick teenager has been charged in relation to a string of alleged break-ins and thefts sweeping across the town as police continue to investigate the escalating crime rate.

Police claim five Warwick homes and businesses were broken into within only 48 hours last week, saying four cars and merchandise worth thousands of dollars were stolen from the targeted premises.

Warwick Police acting officer-in-charge Cameron Slater said on Friday that one of the vehicles was found burnt-out and another was dumped just over the New South Wales border in Boggabilla.

A 15-year-old Warwick boy has now been charged in relation to parts of the alleged crime spree.

He faces four charges of entering premises by break, three charges of burglary, and one charge each of arson of a motor vehicle, attempted entry of premises, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The teenager appeared in Warwick Children’s Court for the first time on Friday and was released on bail.

Detectives are still investigating all incidents.

The spate of break-ins and thefts across Warwick continued over the weekend, with offenders breaking into a shed on a Law Rd property overnight on Saturday and taking two children’s off-road motorcycles.

Sergeant Slater said the bikes were both located on Sunday afternoon, and only one had minor damage.

No charges have been laid at this stage.

Police claim four drink or drug drivers were also nabbed over the weekend, the first of which was a 62-year-old Warwick man who allegedly recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.073.

It was less than 24 hours later that a 36-year-old Wallangarra man was pulled over on the New England Highway at The Glen for a random breath test, where he allegedly recorded a BAC of 0.071.

Two Warwick women, aged 26 and 21, were then charged with drug driving on Sunday.

All four people are due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court within the next several weeks.
