A Warwick father and serial drug driver caught behind the wheel with two drugs in his system was just one of the residents recently sentenced in court for drink or drug driving.
Brendon Clay Giffin was pulled over on Dragon St on October 27 and underwent a drug test at the scene.
Warwick Magistrates Court heard the 24-year-old tested positive to both meth and marijuana in his system.
Sergeant Wiggan told the court Giffin had no urgent reason to be driving at the time and already had prior convictions for the same offence.
The self-represented Giffin could not offer any explanation for his offending when asked by Magistrate Andrew Cridland, saying only that he was now unemployed.
Giffin pleaded guilty to drug driving. He was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for six months.
These were the other Warwick residents recently sentenced for drink or drug driving offences:
A quick dash to the shops proved costly for Michael John Sutherland after he was nabbed driving on a major highway with drugs in his system.
The P-plater was busted on the New England Highway at Leslie Dam, where he tested positive to both meth and marijuana in his system.
Sergeant Wiggan said Sutherland told police he’d smoked marijuana earlier that day and was on the roads to go and do some shopping.
The Warwick court was told Sutherland also had a drink driving conviction from 2015 in his traffic history.
Sutherland pleaded guilty to drug driving. He was fined $400 and disqualified from driving for three months.
Nicholas William Adam Barnett caught a lucky break when he was granted a work licence in the Warwick court after pleading guilty to drink driving.
The Warwick man was pulled over at Maryvale in November and recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.089 at the scene.
Police prosecutor Ken Wiggan said Barnett told officers he’d consumed a couple of beers in the 45 minutes before getting behind the wheel.
Barnett was fined $500 and disqualified from driving for four months.
Darryl Charles Knight was taken off the roads for two months after he was nabbed driving while over the alcohol limit.
The Warwick man recorded a BAC of 0.054 when he was pulled over on Fitzroy St in November.
Knight pleaded guilty to drink driving and was fined $400. He was also granted a work licence.
