A pair of Warwick teenagers will soon face court on a combined 15 charges over an alleged attempted robbery and string of burglaries across the area.
It will be alleged the Warwick boys, aged 14 and 15, targeted the woman as she was walking down Grafton St at about 1.30pm Tuesday.
Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater said the pair allegedly tried to steal the 67-year-old’s handbag, with the woman resisting and eventually being knocked to the ground during the struggle.
“(They) have again tried to take her bag from her while she’s on the ground,” Sergeant Slater said.
“There was a witness who saw what had happened and yelled at them, and then they’ve run away from the scene.”
Nothing was stolen during the incident and the Warwick woman was largely uninjured, suffering only soreness from the impact of her fall.
The two Warwick boys have been charged with one count of attempted robbery and another count each of entering a dwelling and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in relation to an alleged car theft earlier this year.
The 14-year-old now faces an additional four charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three of burglary, and one each of stealing and possessing suspected stolen property.
He was released on bail and is due to appear in Warwick Childrens Court on August 2.
His co-accused will be remanded in custody until his court appearance on August 9.
Police are also searching for the culprits behind a theft from the construction site at the Eight Mile intersection.
Sergeant Slater said that offenders struck between 5.30pm Wednesday and 6.30am Thursday, forcing open the fuel caps on several pieces of machinery and making off with an estimated 100L of diesel.
An investigation is also ongoing into a theft reported at Danny Lyons Sports on Tuesday, when two women entered the Palmerin St store at about 10.30am and made off with several jumpers and other items of clothing.
Sergeant Slater said investigators were still consulting CCTV footage and gathering other evidence in relation to both incidents.
No charges have been laid at this stage.
