Life undercover in Cabramatta: the original drug capital of Australia

A Warwick man charged with bringing drugs into a correctional facility and violently assaulting his ex-partner has been committed to trial in a higher court.

Nathan Thomas Yeo appeared via videolink in Warwick Magistrates Court this week on more than 30 charges, including two counts each of aggravated supply of drugs within a correctional facility and assault occasioning bodily harm, and a further one each of choking and common assault.

It will be alleged the 30-year-old supplied himself with methamphetamines and opioid medication buprenorphine while in a correctional centre at Wacol on June 7 last year.

The Warwick court heard Mr Yeo allegedly choked his then-partner on December 27 last year, and assaulted her again causing further injury on January 4 and 7.

Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa submitted three witness statements to the court in relation to the drug supply charges and another two connected to those of choking and assault.

Mr Yeo was committed to trial in the Ipswich District Court on the drug-related matters and the Warwick District Court for the alleged offences against his partner.

Neither trial has been given a confirmed start date at this stage.

The Warwick man did not speak or enter a plea to any of the charges when given the opportunity in court this week.

Mr Yeo did not make an application for bail and will be remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

His remaining charges include serious assault of police, threatening violence, and unregulated high-risk activities in relation to his alleged involvement in a dramatic 12-hour rooftop siege in Warwick in October, 2020.

Mr Yeo was due to be sentenced over the incident in Warwick Magistrates Court last November, but the matter was adjourned when he failed to appear and had not made any contact with his lawyers for some time leading up to the no-show.

Defence lawyer Amber Acreman asked the court on Wednesday that the outstanding charges be given a lengthy adjournment to allow further case conferencing to occur.

The summary matters will next be mentioned on July 13 and Mr Yeo is excused from appearing in person.
