A recent spate of break-ins and car thefts across Warwick has continued again over the weekend, with offenders now targeting higher-end vehicles and dumping them in far-flung locations across the region.

Police say thieves broke into a Diery St home between 1am and 5am on Sunday, pocketing two sets of car keys and using them to steal the BMW sedan and Range Rover SUV parked at the property.

Warwick Police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater said the stolen cars were sighted driving erratically or lined up around town in the early hours of the morning.

“The BMW has since been located in Toowoomba, and the Range Rover was recovered at Yelarbon,” he said.

It was less than 24 hours later that another vehicle was stolen from a Warwick home, with offenders this time taking a Nissan Navara utility from a Marshall St property between 7pm on Sunday and 4.30am on Monday.

Sergeant Slater said the vehicle was parked in the front yard at the time of the theft, but investigations were yet to determine whether the culprits forced entry into the house.

“We’re just wanting to remind people again to lock their houses, that’s what we’re really struggling with at the moment,” he said.

The latest stolen car is yet to be located and no charges have been laid in relation to either theft.

It comes only a week after police charged a 15-year-old Warwick boy over a string of break-ins and thefts that swept the town in late January.

The teenager faces four charges of entering premises by break, three charges of burglary, and one each of arson of a motor vehicle, attempted entry of premises, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was released on bail after appearing in Warwick Children’s Court for the first time on January 28.

Detectives are still investigating the remaining incidents.

There is no suggestion at this stage that any of the most recent thefts are related to those reported last month.

Anyone with relevant information should contact Warwick Police on 4660 4444 or Crime Stoppers on 1300 888 000.
