A young Warwick woman whose home was invaded by a young man who exposed himself before fleeing has shared her shock and disgust, with the incident leaving her fearful for her own and others’ safety.

The woman, who preferred to remain anonymous, says she was watching TV in her living room on Monday night when she heard a knock on her screen door at about 7pm.

She said she saw a young man who appeared to be in his late teens standing outside her house.

The teenager quickly entered her home, asking for a cup of water and a lighter for the cigarette in his mouth.

“When I got him the cup of water, I didn’t notice it, but when I looked around again I saw that basically his entire genitals were on display,” she said.

“I pretty much screamed at him, ‘Get the f--k out of my house’, and he walked out.

“I closed and locked my door straight away, and ended up calling the police.”

After the initial shock of the confrontation had worn off, the woman began to worry that she had been targeted because she was a young woman living alone.

“The one thing that’s got me wondering is, why it was me out of all of them? There’s nine other units here, why mine in particular – was he watching me?” she said.

“I don’t know for sure, but it’s a bit weird that he came in and asked for a cup of water. Why didn’t he go a couple of doors down to find a man?

“He probably thought I was an easy target. One of my neighbours saw him, and it was weird because he just gave my neighbour a wave as he was walking away.”

The woman said she’d heard reports another young woman had been the victim of similar indecent exposure near the Warwick Riverwalk last week, and believed the offences could be linked in “a sad and worrying” sign for the community.

“What if my next-door neighbour’s little girl saw that? They don’t need to be exposed to something like that, nobody does, especially a child,” she said.

“I wanted to bring up a bit of awareness, because what happens to the next person he does it to? Will she get hurt?

“They need more than just a little fine and probation or good behaviour. It’s not teaching them anything, and they’re going to scare someone or end up hurting someone.”

Warwick Police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater confirmed the incidents on Monday night and at the riverwalk were still being investigated by detectives.

He said no official link had been made between the offences at this stage, and no charges had been laid in relation to either complaint.

Anyone with relevant information should contact Warwick Police on 4660 4444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
