A man nabbed drink driving on a work trip caught a lucky break when he was granted a work licence in Warwick Magistrates Court.

Mark James Reeves was busted at a random breath testing site in Emerald at about 7pm on June 23, where he returned a BAC of 0.083.

The self-represented man said his job required him to drive across southeast and central Queensland, and being completely disqualified would take a toll on his earnings.

Reeves pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving. He was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for three months, but was granted a work licence.

A Warwick man has told the court he’d learned his lesson after being busted drug driving while unlicensed would likely cost him his job.

Nicholas Lee Minchell was caught behind the wheel with methamphetamines in his system on Jackie Howe Drive at about 7.30am on June 21.

Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa said the maintenance worker was also driving unlicensed, making it the second time in the past five years.

Minchell pleaded guilty to one count each of drug driving and driving unlicensed as a repeat offender.

He was fined $650 and disqualified from driving for four months.

Damien Mervyn Mitchell was taken off the roads for a month after he was nabbed drug driving on a busy Warwick street.

He was pulled over on Wallace Street at about 5.30pm on May 22, where he tested positive for marijuana in his system.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to one count of drug driving and was fined $350.

A woman managed to walk away with a work licence after she was busted driving at more than twice the legal alcohol limit.

Kathryn Marie Rodgers was nabbed on Matthew Road at Stanthorpe on July 6, where she returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.113.

The self-represented woman applied for a work licence in the Warwick court, contending her job as a private support worker made it necessary for getting clients to appointments.

Rodgers pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving. She was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for seven months, but was granted a work licence.

A couple of drinks before getting behind the wheel were enough to earn Kerry May Galvin a one-month disqualification.

The 59-year-old was busted driving on Percy Street just after 7pm on June 25, where she returned a BAC of 0.063.

Defence lawyer Geoff Hobson argued the Warwick woman needed a work licence to maintain her job, given she lived 28km out of town and had no means of public transport.

Galvin pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving and was fined $350, but was granted a work licence.

Wess Edward Kulldulla told the Warwick court he was “very embarrassed” to have wound up before the magistrate for another drink driving offence.

He was busted on Warwick-Killarney Road at about 9pm on July 17, where he returned a BAC of 0.112.

A self-represented Kulldulla said this wasn’t his first time in court for drink driving, and he hoped he’d finally learnt his lesson.

“I want to hopefully prove to my boys that I practise what I preach and don’t want to go down this road,” he said.

He pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving. He was fined $650 and disqualified from driving for five months.

A man busted drink driving on a major Warwick road has been disqualified from driving for two months, despite arguing in court it would have a significant impact on his income.

Police caught sight of Brian Christopher Day on Freestone Road at about 4pm on July 6, where they pulled him over for a breath test. He returned a BAC of 0.072.

Day told the court his work required him to regularly drive to the Brisbane and Gold Coast areas, meaning any licence disqualification would leave him struggling financially.

He pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving and was fined $350.

A Warwick man claimed it was a relationship breakdown that drove him to get behind the wheel with drugs in his system.

Richard William Winn was busted on Dragon Street at about 12.30pm on May 30, where he returned a positive result for marijuana.

The self-represented man told the court his partner of 24 years had walked out on him that week and he’d turned to marijuana as a coping mechanism.

“It was just a moment to clear my head, and I made a mistake,” he said.

Winn pleaded guilty to one count of drug driving. He was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for two months.

A few drinks at the Stockyard Tavern before getting behind the wheel were enough to see a Warwick P-plater lose his licence for three months.

Joshua Paul Stevens was pulled over on Fitzroy Street at about midnight on July 3, where he returned a BAC of 0.05.

The Warwick man told the court he knew he’d made a “very stupid decision” and would take it back if he could.

Stevens pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving. He was fined $350 and no conviction was recorded.
