A Warwick father has walked free after a meth-fuelled rage where he threatened to kill strangers while brandishing a knife in a crowded pub.

Police were called to a disturbance at the Horse and Jockey Hotel Motel about 8pm on May 29, where they found Beau James Fogarty in the beer garden with a folding Stanley knife in the waistband of his pants.

Warwick Magistrates Court was told the 28-year-old told officers he’d been provoked by another patron and armed himself with the blade because he was outnumbered, but it wasn’t long before Fogarty started levelling threats of his own.

Police prosecutor Ken Wiggan said the Warwick man began yelling at other group in the pub, shouting “I’ll kill every single f —king one of the last c —ts” and “if I’m going to get locked up for something, I might as well go to jail for murder”.

“They searched him to see if he had any other knives on him, as well as drugs based on his state (as) he was erratic,” Sergeant Wiggan said.

Police found 1.7g of ice and two glass pipes with drug residue in a bumbag around Fogarty’s chest.

He was given the option to have a friend take him home and be dealt with at a later date, but continued to threaten violence and was eventually taken to the watch-house.

The frenzied outburst occurred only weeks after police found an unauthorised taser in his home on April 5.

Sergeant Wiggan said Fogarty initially admitted to officers he had a torch-like object that would shine a light at the touch of one button and fire a small electric shock with another.

When police located the weapon in the pantry beside Forgarty’s prescription medication, he claimed he didn’t know it was there and said it could have been his mother’s.

The Warwick father’s string of offending also breached the probation order he was serving.

The court was told Fogarty suffered Tourette syndrome and hadn’t taken his prescription medication in about a month, which contributed to his irate display at the pub.

Acting magistrate Rob Turra sentenced Fogarty to nine months’ jail with immediate release on parole, warning he was lucky his disturbing threats didn’t end with somebody getting hurt.

“If you stuff up again, you’re going to jail. This is an imprisonment order I’ve made, so you can be under the strict control and supervision of the probation office for as long as you play ball – got it?,” Mr Turra said.

Fogarty pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing a knife in a public place, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils, unlawful possession of a weapon, and contravening a probation order.

He was also fined $300.
