Plans for a new suite of accommodation at a popular Granite Belt winery could soon enable guests to stay on-site while indulging in a glass or two of their favourite wine.
A development application for a 20-site tourist park at Mountview Wines was lodged with Southern Downs Regional Council on behalf of owners MHL Investments last month.
The expansion would include 13 self-contained cabins and seven camping sites on the winery’s 15.42 ha of land at 233 Mount Stirling Road, Glen Aplin.
A report submitted with the application stated each cabin would contain two bedrooms with an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area and adjoining car space.
“The proposal will directly support the existing winery on the subject site and provide further tourism and accommodation opportunities to support the region,” the report read.
“The diversity of accommodation only serves to broaden the visitor appeal, as it will cater for travellers to the area looking for quick and easy accommodation (with) the cabins.
“It will also cater for people who prefer camping and also long-distance travellers in caravans, which will attract not only visitors to the area but also encourage (them) to stay.”
The first stage of development would deliver six cabins, all seven camping sites, two amenities blocks with bathroom and laundry facilities, a communal gazebo, and an internal gravel path.
A car park extension and the remaining seven cabins would be built within the second stage.
Mountview Wines’ potential expansion would substantially increase its on-site accommodation, with the only current option a quaint cottage designed for two guests at a time.
The winery has previously been known for hosting events such as the Mountview Music Muster.
