A Toowoomba magistrate has released a number of arrest warrants under the Bail Act after numerous alleged offenders failed to show up to court.

Darling Downs police will now be on the lookout for the alleged law-breakers so they can be brought before the Toowoomba court.

Arrest warrants were issued for the following Darling Downs residents for breaching the conditions of their bail undertakings by failing to appear at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 26:

John Leslie Sweeney

Mr Sweeney failed to appear on Thursday on two fraud charges, which have been before the court since the beginning of 2023.

Acting Magistrate Mark Whitbread noted Mr Sweeney’s file showed he had a history of not showing up to court and the man’s previous warrants were postponed.

Despite sending the court an email stating he wasn’t able to go to court because he was helping his mother, Mr Whitbread said something needed to happen to progress Mr Sweeney’s matter.

The court heard on June 12, Mr Sweeney had also emailed to court to say he couldn’t attend, this time because his mother was sick.

Magistrate Whitbread said he failed to see why Mr Sweeney would again get the benefit of a postponed warrant, and released a Bail Act warrant for his arrest.

Ashleigh Nicole Hazard

Ms Hazard failed to appear at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 26, on one charge of public nuisance and one charge of failing to appear in accordance with her undertaking.

Acting Magistrate Mark Whitbread released a Bail Act warrant for Ms Hazard’s arrest, and declared her bail was forfeited.

Harrison David Jenkins

Magistrate Kay Ryan told the court Mr Harrison was previously allowed to remain at large after failing to sign his bail in May, for a charge of common assault.

She said the court would get him to appear “one way or another,” and issued the Bail Act warrant for his arrest.
Mr Jenkins had a number of other charges before the court which included driving and drug related offences.

Jesse Anne Treveton

The court heard Ms Treveton, who failed to show up to court on Wednesday, had been on bail in the community since February after police charged the woman with the possession of a dangerous drug.

Magistrate Ryan declared her undertaking was forfeited and issued a bail act warrant for her arrest.

Bobby Nathan Stephen Rose

On Wednesday, the court heard Mr Rose was on bail conditions for a failure to appear charge as well as a number of freshly laid charges.

Ms Ryan told the police prosecution that Mr Rose’s new charges had yet to appear on the court’s database.

She said it was best to find Mr Rose before dealing with the clerical discrepancy, and released a bail act warrant for his arrest.
Realising his mistake, Mr Rose fronted court the following day on Thursday, June 26, to hand himself in.

His warrant was recalled and cancelled and his matters were adjourned

The above are innocent until proven guilty.
