The summer cricket season is off to a blazing with the Warwick side playing its first game of the Mitchell Shield.
The senior Warwick side will be doing battle against Toowoomba on Sunday, unofficially marking the beginning of summer competition for the local boys.
The Mitchell Shield is the region’s premier cricket clash, with teams from South West Queensland competing for the ultimate glory of lifting the shield.
Senior Warwick Cricket president Andrew Bryson said while players may have their work cut out for them this weekend against a strong side, there was always a chance.
“As long as we play competitive, it should give us a good chance, it’ll give us some foundation to build on for the rest of the series,” Bryson said.
“It’s been a bit of a weird start to the season with all the rain in the region, so everyone will be in the same boat, but the weekend should be cleared up and perfect for playing.”
