A retired doctor has rushed to the aid of a man involved in a single-vehicle crash off the New England Highway near the Queensland-NSW border.
It is believed the injured driver left the highway onto Turners Creek Rd at Dalveen and crashed into a tree just after 4pm on Friday.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said on Saturday one of the first people on the scene was a retired doctor who provided first aid before emergency services arrived.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said crews worked to stabilise the vehicle, where the driver remained trapped inside.
The man, aged in his 70s, is believed to have suffered a leg injury and was assessed by paramedics, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.
Due to the unstable position of the vehicle, fire and rescue crews were required to perform an extraction.
Fire and rescue crews managed to free the man after some time, and he was flown in a rescue helicopter to Princess Alexandra hospital in a stable condition, the QAS spokeswoman said.
