A nostalgic Granite Belt business is set to close its doors, having opened to the community in December 2023.
Retro Arcade Stanthorpe was the brain child of Girraween couple Tatiana Larsen and James Costenoble, self-described ‘kids at heart’ whose love story began in a Brisbane arcade.
The couple told Warwick Daily News in December their mutual love for retro entertainment inspired their decision to open the Stanthorpe arcade.
In March the pair opened a second retro store in Warwick, located on Fitzroy St, expanding their dream to the wider Southern Downs.
Sadly, the couple announced via social media on Wednesday the Stanthorpe arcade would be closing its doors.
In the post made to the arcade’s Facebook page, the couple cited financial difficulties and the ending of the stores lease as the reason behind the regretful closure of the Stanthorpe store.
“It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing that our beloved Stanthorpe arcade will be closing its doors soon,” the post said.
“We have spent countless hours wrecking our brains and crunching the numbers to see if there was anything we could do to keep the dream alive.
“This has not been an easy decision for us, however our lease is almost up and unfortunately we are not in a financial position to risk running at a loss if we were to renew it.”
It’s not goodbye forever for the couple who will continue to provide fun to all ages at their Retro Arcade Warwick store, merging their collections.
The couple praised their loyal customers for their unwavering support and advised the Stanthorpe arcade will officially close at 4pm on Sunday, May 26.
Warwick Daily News reached out to Retro Arcade Stanthorpe for further comment, however didn’t receive a response at the time of publishing.
