Ladies 4x4 team challenging the big boys

MUD, grease and cars - there is no wonder four wheel driving is a male dominated sport. But Warwick girl Emily Taylor is not letting stereotypes get in her way.

The 23-year-old will take to the track in the Xtreme Winch Challenge, held at The Springs 4x4 Camping and Adventure Park this weekend.

"I have been camping and four wheel driving since I was in nappies," Taylor said.

"I started competing three years ago. But I have been four wheel driving since grade eight.

"I've always lived on properties."

Taylor said she was looking forward to competing in the competition this weekend.

"It is a winch challenge," she said.

"It will be me and my navigator Katie (Ireland) in the car.

"I love the adrenalin and the challenge of it."

Taylor said an all-girl team was rather rare.

"There was another girl winch driver but she hasn't competed for two years. There is normally one or two female teams."

The young driver does have one advantage over other drivers; her parents own the Springs 4x4 Camping and Adventure Park.

"It is my backyard," she said.

"I do get a bit of practice in. I have my own personal speed track that no one else is allowed to use."

While not everyone will be able to participate in the race, Taylor said it was a great spectator sport as well.

Races will be held on Friday and Saturday night and Sunday morning.

It costs $25 per car to watch all the action live.
