Jaime John Abbas caught in Leyburn allegedly with drugs hidden in underwear while on bail for crime spree

A former Warwick footballer is back in custody after allegedly being busted with drugs.
A Warwick Criminal Investigation Branch spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that Jaime John Abbas was arrested at about 11am on the Thursday, October 11, on Donovan’s Rd at Leyburn.
It is understood a member of the public phoned in a report of a suspicious vehicle stopped at Leyburn, with police attending and locating Mr Abbas in the company of two males and a black VW Golf vehicle.
Mr Abbas was detained by police and searched. During the search police allegedly located 36g of what police will allege was amphetamine, hidden in his underwear.
Warwick Daily News understands Mr Abbas was supposed to be in NSW at a bail address when he was nabbed by police.
Mr Abbas was arrested and transported to Warwick Station on Thursday, and appeared in the Warwick Magistrates Court the following day where he made no application for bail.
The 28-year-old was on bail with he and a co-accused facing more than 100 charges relating to an alleged months-long crime spree.
Police allege Mr Abbas and co-offenders engaged in a months-long crime spree, targeting businesses and residences across the Southern Downs region.
The once promising athlete had spotted the eye of several NRL, including the Cowboys and Manly, while playing with a local side.
It is expected the man will return to court in November 2023.
