JUMPERS and Jazz is only one sleep away and the city of Warwick is in the process of being transformed.

The first tree jumper went up yesterday outside the Palace Hotel on Palmerin St, adding some colour to the leafless tree.

The group of friends behind the design embraced the "spice" theme, focusing their display on ginger.

The base of the tree was transformed into a gingerbread house, while the branches were decorated with dozens of handmade gingerbread men.

Group member Lyn Irwin-Kelly said it was the fifth tree jumper the group had entered.

"It's our best one yet," she said.

"It is the first time we've had people in the group who can build and sew."

The tree is named "run, run as fast as you can".

The group of friends, who meet for morning tea every Tuesday, also met for two sewing bees and a workshop.

The group member's children also got involved, dressing their own tree yesterday afternoon.

Abbey McDonnell said they had worked very hard.

"We got together in the school holidays and each made two or three girls," she said.

Jenelle Matthews, the mastermind behind last year's iron-bark tree display, said she was looking forward to this year's festival.

"It's a wonderful festival," she said. "It's wonderful to be part of and it's great that the whole town gets involved.

"I will be putting my tree up (today) but it's a secret."

The town hall is being yarn bombed today and the Daily News will be there to take photos and video, which you can check out online.
