The Warwick Water Rats Ladies’ Day event is being labelled a success for both the club and the wider community with wins on and off the field.
The afternoon’s celebrations kicked off with the men’s side clinching a convincing 19-8 win over the Condamine Cods, cementing their place in the Downs Rugby B-grade finals series.
The football success set the tone for the afternoon of celebration, with the Ladies’ Day event dedicated to both celebrating the club’s women and raising money for the Little Windmills charity.
Water Rats secretary Tess Enchelmaier was unsure whether the club would beat last year’s whopping $8000 donation, but said she was thrilled with the community support.
“Obviously it’s a busy time of year in town, so it’s nice that people took time out of their weekends to visit us, and hopefully we got to share a bit of rugby union and what the charity does with them,” she said.
“We had people come from all over the place – Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, or more inland than us – so it was really nice to hear it’s becoming the kind of event people will travel for.
“The Little Windmills people were really stoked, I was really stoked, and it’s always a good day when the club comes together a little more than usual.
“Even if the money can only help one sick kid with a couple of travel vouchers or something, it’s one kid we’ve helped.”
The Ladies’ Day event drew dozens to Risdon Oval, with many taking the opportunity to put their most stylish foot forward.
