The taste of spring is well and truly in the air as unusually warm temperatures soar across Queensland.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Ella Reid said spring has sprung early in the Southern and Darling Downs as daytime temperatures become unusually warm.
“We’re seeing quite warm temperatures across Friday becoming warmer into the weekend,” she said.
Ms Reid said while the Southern and Darling Downs region hasn’t quite broken any warm weather records just yet, the region was sitting among the top 10 to record obscure temperatures for this time of year.
Daytime temperatures on Friday are set to reach 31C in Warwick, 33C in Goondiwindi, 35C in St George and 30C in Toowoomba, with a slight increase predicted as we move into the weekend.
Ms Reid said Southern and Darling Downs residents can expect to feel a change early next week with temperatures predicted to drop back into the low 20s.
A reprieve from the heatwave, which is being caused by a warm air mass lingering over central and northern Australia, is not expected until Thursday next week.
