A MAGISTRATE has withheld lecturing a man over his drug charges, assuming his girlfriend and lawyer had beaten him to it.

Alex William Raymond Andersen pleaded guilty to two charges in Warwick Magistrates Court, while his partner sat in the back of the room.

The 26-year-old's Brisbane lawyer Peter Shields told the court his client's possession of 1.5g of marijuana, one ecstasy pill, 1.7g of MDMA (ecstasy) and a glass pipe was "out of character".

"He comes from a really good family… it's just a brain snap," he said.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey told the Goonellabah man he assumed his girlfriend was "pretty pissed" about the charges.

Mr Shields took the liberty of answering.

"There's nothing Your Honour can say that (she) hasn't," he said.

Andersen was fined $500 with no conviction recorded.

"I think Mr Shields will give you a whack around the ears," Mr Manthey said.

"And so will your missus."
