A Toowoomba rugby league star’s career is in jeopardy after pleading guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.
Facing Toowoomba Magistrates Court today, Darryl Erepia was fined $1000 with no conviction recorded in relation to an August 2021 incident.
Erepia’s latest court appearance could further harm his chances of playing league in Queensland with the 23-year-old already stood down from all rugby league related activities indefinitely in March.
Having signed with Warwick Cowboys for the 2025 Toowoomba Rugby League season, Erepia was given a Show Cause Notice by Queensland Rugby League after he pleaded guilty to sexual assault in March this year.
He entered his guilty plea before the Toowoomba District Court on Tuesday, March 18, one week before he was set to stand trial on the charges that were dismissed in exchange for his plea.
The court heard his guilty plea came after his lawyers made a deal with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to drop “a much more serious charge”.
In statement provided to this masthead QRL confirmed “Mr Erepia’s case is being reviewed by the State Code of Conduct review committee, and he remains provisionally stood down until the committee reaches an outcome”.
Erepia is no stranger to the judicial system.
In August 2023, the former USQ Saints rugby union player was acquitted of assault causing grievous bodily harm following a three-day trial before the Toowoomba District Court.
The court heard Erepia was celebrating a team member’s birthday in 2021 when he participated in a consensual fight that left a man in a coma with serious head injuries after being tackled on concrete.
