Airman says thank you to Central students

TWO Central State School students received packages from an airman in Afghanistan, to say thank you for the Christmas cards they sent last year.

TWO Central State School students received packages from an airman in Afghanistan, to say thank you for the Christmas cards they sent last year.

Year 3 student Chelsea Canton and Year 2 Chelsea Luggar said they were very surprised to get a package back.

"It is very special," said Chelsea Canton.

"I'm looking forward to making another one this year."

Lee Wells of Veteran Support Advocacy Services attended the school assembly with Private Toby Willett to present the two girls with their packages.

"There are hats, badges and lollies to remind the kids what they did," he said.

"There is also an Australian flag that was flown in an Australian aircraft in Afghanistan for the school," Mr Wells said.

The package was accompanied with a letter from the airman, which Mr Wells read out.

"Thank you for the Christmas care package. It really meant a lot," he read.

"I am a father and being away form my kids at Christmas is hard.

"It means a lot to have your support."

Mr Wells said the efforts of all the students and the school were greatly appreciated.
