‘Void in many hearts’: Father remembered after workplace incident

A surveyor killed in workplace incident near Brisbane has been identified, as a close friend pays tribute to his dedication as a worker and as a father, saying his death is a “wake-up call to people in the construction industry”.

Tradie tragedy: why construction workers need safer worksites

A surveyor who died during a workplace incident was a “loving father” who “worked tirelessly to provide” for his family.

Brad Arnold died on September 23 while he was working at the Cleveland-Redland Bay Road Upgrade in Victoria Point after being hit by a truck.

His friend Michael Campos has created a GoFundMe to help his family navigate through the tragedy and to support his children who now have to have a future without their dad.

“Brad was a dedicated Engineering Surveyor specialising in bridge works, consistently pushing through whatever challenges were thrown his way,” he said.

“Beyond his role, Brad was also a mentor, passing on knowledge and skills to others in the field.

“His impact is felt deeply across the industry, reminding us how crucial it is to honour his memory.”

Mr Arnold has left behind a son and daughter.

“While he worked tirelessly in his profession, his driving force was always his family, aiming to provide and care for them,” Mr Campos said.

“Brad leaves behind a son and a daughter who are now facing the world without their father.

“His absence creates a void in many hearts that can never truly be filled.”

Mr Campos said Mr Arnold came to Australia from South Africa, first making Coffs Harbour home before moving to South East Queensland.

“Brad was a whirlwind of energy, he loved the outdoors, snowboarding, surfing, swimming, and fishing, and his zest for life was infectious,” he said.

“He recently took up gardening again and never missed a chance to bring home a doggy bag from dinners out for his four-legged friends.”

Mr Arnold was an experienced surveyor who worked on several New South Wales projects like Woolgoolga to Ballina and Maroochydore to Mons Road.

“Brad’s untimely death is a stark reminder that even the most ordinary lives can be shattered in an instant,” he said.

“It’s a wake-up call, especially for Brads colleagues in the construction industry that despite all safety precautions, things can still go horribly wrong.

“Let’s make sure that his family doesn’t have to navigate this tragedy alone.”
