A teenager charged with the murder of a Hervey Bay Uber driver has had his matter briefly mentioned in court.

Tye Wayne Porter, 18, and a 17-year-old co-accused were charged with murder after the death of Scott Cabrie in February 2023.

It is alleged Mr Cabrie was killed during a robbery attempt when he picked up the two teens and another person on February 7.

His body was later found at a boat ramp in Howard.

Mr Porter’s case was heard briefly before Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday, April 20.

He faced charges of murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, armed robbery and deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detain.

At the court appearance, which Mr Porter was excused from appearing at, police prosecutor Sonia Edwards said a partial brief of evidence was available for his legal representative.

“It is available and it is quite bulky. I was just waiting to tell my friend it was available instead of bringing it over to court with that sensitive material,” Sergeant Edwards said.

She said it was a partial brief of evidence as police were still waiting to receive Mr Cabrie’s autopsy results.

The court heard a five-week adjournment was requested.

Magistrate Trinity McGarvie adjourned the matter to June 1.
