Funeral held for slain Hervey Bay Uber driver Scott Cabrie

Loved ones, including his loyal dog, have gathered for an emotional farewell to slain Uber driver Scott Cabrie who has been described as a local legend and ‘top bloke’.

The brother of murdered Uber driver Scott Cabrie has delivered a heartbreaking eulogy at a funeral held for the Toogoom man on Friday.

Mr Cabrie, 47, was found dead near a boat ramp on Power House Rd in Howard on February 12 after being missing for several days.

Two teenagers have since been charged with murder in relation to Mr Cabrie’s death.

With his beloved labrador Bella in attendance, hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their final farewells at Toogoom Community Hall.

Wiping away tears, his brother Ian opened simply by saying “I loved Scott”.

“He was my little brother.

“I loved him from the first moment I saw him.”

He spoke of the happy childhood the two shared together.

Other friends told of their mate “Noddy”, what a gentleman he was, his caring nature and love of people.

Driving an Uber was the perfect job for Mr Cabrie, who provided nearly 25,000 rides during his four years as a driver in Hervey Bay.

“He was a generous, caring, all around top bloke who I was always proud to call mate,” one longtime friend said.

His mate spoke of how Mr Cabrie had taken meticulous care of his bikes when they were children, which had carried on to cars when he was older.

“Always good for a laugh, our chats will be sorely missed,” he said.

“But for now I say goodbye and I know we will catch up again.

“Your shift is complete. You can now rest.”

One of Mr Cabrie’s closest friends, fellow Uber driver Cameron Thomas, spoke during the service.

“Scotty worked hard and long hours but he loved it,” he said.

“He played an integral role in building Uber in Hervey Bay into the great service it has become today.”

Mr Cabrie had been a top rated diamond driver, Mr Thomas said.

Mr Thomas read some of the top comments made about Mr Cabrie from happy customers, including “offers Mentos like no other man before”, a nod to his hospitality in which he freely dispersed the mints and hand sanitiser, and another which called him a “local legend”.

“He loved to laugh and to listen,” he said.

True Blue by John Williamson played during the service.

But the final song selection came from Mr Cabrie himself, who had once cheekily told a family member he wanted Highway to Hell by AC/DC played at his service.

The Uber drivers of the Fraser Coast formed a guard of honour as the casket was taken out of the community hall.
