Friends and family have paid tribute to an “exceptional mother and loving wife” who was tragically killed, along with her baby boy, in a horror crash on Friday.
Amy Maher, 33, and her three-month-old baby Arlo were both killed after the car Amy was driving left Caboolture River Rd and hit a tree at Upper Caboolture on the afternoon of June 7.
Passers-by came across the single vehicle crash and alerted emergency services, who found baby Arlo ejected from his car seat.
He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries on Sunday. Amy was declared dead at the scene.
Amy and Arlo were remembered in a Gofundme appeal, which aimed to raise funds to support her husband Alan.
“We are deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the sudden loss of Amy, an exceptional mother and loving wife, and her precious three-month-old baby, Arlo. Amy’s love knew no bounds for her husband, Alan, and their (three) children.
“The car accident on Friday, June 7, has profoundly impacted not only our family and friends but also our community, including the first responders and hospital staff who fought tirelessly to save Arlo’s life.
“This unimaginable loss has left Alan and his children devastated. As they navigate this incredibly challenging time, we want to support them in any way we can.”
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
“At this stage the investigations indicate the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd and has left the road, colliding with several large trees,” Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit Sergeant Greg Price told media on Saturday.
“The vehicle suffered extensive damage as a result of the crash. We are seeking any witnesses to the crash or any dashcam from the crash.
“We are seeking what the actions of the driver were prior to the crash. Most of the people that called in [on Friday] have come across the crash, they weren’t witnesses.”
