A three-month-month-old baby left critically injured in a car accident that claimed the life of his mother has died.
The single-vehicle accident occurred on Friday at 2.30pm, with emergency services responding to reports a car had crashed into a tree on Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd at Upper Caboolture.
Police found a badly damaged 4WD car and a 33-year-old Caboolture woman was declared dead at the scene.
The boy was found in the car after having been thrown from an approved baby seat.
He was taken to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, but died in hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
“At this stage the investigations indicate the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Caboolture River Rd near Tinney Rd and has left the road, colliding with several large trees,” Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit Sergeant Greg Price told media on Saturday.
“The vehicle suffered extensive damage as a result of the crash. We are seeking any witnesses to the crash or any dashcam from the crash.
“We are seeking what the actions of the driver were prior to the crash. Most of the people that called in [on Friday] have come across the crash, they weren’t witnesses.”
