Teen’s fight for life after car rolls on country road

The family of a teen who was ejected from a car as it rolled several times have been supporting him from his beside as he battles to stay alive.

Braydyn Booth’s family have been sitting by the teenager’s hospital bed praying he would survive the injuries he suffered when the car he was driving rolled southwest of Toowoomba.

The 17-year-old was placed into an induced coma as he fought for life after the horrific crash on Monday morning.

Mr Booth’s mum Megan Gleeson said her son was a fighter and she believed he would pull through.

“He is tough, he always has been,” she said.

A Queensland police spokesman said the sedan rolled several times before landing against trees.

Mr Booth was thrown from the car and a passer-by found him about 8.40am.

It’s believed the teenager may have been lying in the shrubs for up to an hour struggling to breathe, as residents said they heard a distant bang earlier in the morning.

He was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with head and spine injuries.

Ms Gleeson said she was sitting at her son’s bedside on Wednesday when he opened his eyes.

“He has been taken off sedation and he’s responding appropriately but he is still on Morphine and his ventilator,” she said.

Her son had suffered a fractured spine but had some movement in his arms and legs.

Mr Booth had recently been living in Cooktown where he worked at The Sovereign Resort Hotel.

He moved back to Millmerran to live with his stepdad just weeks ago.

A police investigation is ongoing.

“Being a mother to four boys, you are always scared,” Ms Gleeson said.

“We can guide and teach them so much but ultimately they are their own person and make their own choices.”

It's the second serious crash in a week near Millmerran after a Toyota Kluger collided with a truck on July 22, killing a woman and her daughter.

Police last week urged motorists to take care as eight people have lost their lives on Toowoomba country roads since June 9.
