Two young girls, aged 4 and 9, died in a house fire west of Brisbane this morning while other older children managed to escaped unharmed.

The two-storey brick house in Pinkwood Street, Bellbowrie was well ablaze when emergency crews arrived about 12.40 this morning.

Two 15-year-old boys, an eight-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl escaped uninjured from the house.

Tragically the two girls, 4 and 9, were later found dead inside. The house was extensively damaged with only the framework remaining. Police investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist died in hospital after a collision with a truck in Mission Beach about 4.50pm yesterday.

Initial investigations suggest the motorcycle crashed into the rear of a prime mover that was turning right from Alexander Drive into a private property.

The 17-year-old male rider, from Bingal Bay, was taken to Tully Hospital where he later died.

At Willowbank, the driver of a sedan lost control and struck a power pole on Ipswich Rosewood Road, near O’Neils Road, about 10.50pm last night.

The 22-year-old sole occupant was freed from the vehicle and taken to the Ipswich General Hospital. He was later transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with bleeding on the brain and is in a critical condition.
