A Sunshine Coast acupuncturist has revealed plans to establish a microbrewery, equipped with a kitchen and canning facility, in an industrial site in Marcoola, neighbouring the Sunshine Coast Airport.

Plans for the microbrewery were submitted to the Sunshine Coast Council on April, 17 on behalf of the company, Young Giants Brewing Pty Ltd.

Young Giants Brewing, which is directed and founded by Sunshine Coast acupuncturist Matt Ford and Chris Geddes, would operate the venue located near the Sunshine Coast Airport at the Runway Industrial Centre.

According to the planning report submitted to the council, the microbrewery would include an area for patrons to taste the beer, a kitchen and small space for the sale of the alcohol produced onsite.

“The proposed retail space will include tables and chairs for customers to taste the produced product onsite,” the report stated.

“The proposed microbrewery also includes a kitchen adjoining the proposed retail area, which allows for the preparation of food and the responsible sale of alcohol in accordance with the ancillary sale of products produced.”

The venue would be equipped with fermenters, a canning room, cold room, office and mill room.

The planning report also described the warehouse layout, which would be split to include two main zones within the brewery, the small retail space as well as the main area for the beer production.

“The proposed retail sales area will allow for the sale of products that are produced onsite, namely beer, and for the subordinate tasting of such products onsite,” the report stated.

“The connection between the retail space and the industrial component is strong and the consumption of food and drink remains clearly ancillary to the beer production and tasting experience to be provided at the premises.”

If approved, the microbrewery is expected to open to patrons in mid-June this year.
