The school of the 12 year-old child who suffered a serious bicycle accident in Mount Coolum has spoken out.

York Macleod crashed with a car while riding his bike along a tree-lined Sunshine Coast street.

Emergency crews rushed to the crash on Tanah St West, Mount Coolum, at 5.38pm on Saturday.

York was flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital with life-threatening head injuries and was admitted to ICU.

A Coolum Beach Christian College spokeswoman said “they are fervently praying for our injured student”.

“Our thoughts are with his family and all those affected during this difficult time,” the spokeswoman said.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders and to Queensland Health for the exceptional care and support provided.”

A Children’s Health Media spokeswoman confirmed York was in a stable condition.

A GoFundMe was created eight days ago to support the Macleod family, and it has already raised more than $23,000.

According to the GoFundMe, York is described as “a talented soccer player, passionate surfer and amazing friend”.

It also stated the family was “facing a challenging journey ahead”.

“York’s injuries will take time to heal and his recovery will require the love, strength and support of his family every step of the way,” the fundraiser stated.

“The Macleod family is facing a challenging journey ahead, both emotionally and financially, as they focus on being by York’s side during his recovery.”

The fundraiser creator also said the family was grateful for any financial contribution.

“We are so grateful for any donations to help bless and support this wonderful family during this difficult season, easing some of the financial burdens that come with medical and rehabilitation costs,” they stated.

“Any contribution, big or small, will make a difference and mean the world to York and his family as they navigate this road to healing together.”

The family has received 209 donations totalling to $23,025 of their $25,000 target.
