Boy, 12, suffers serious head injuries after bike crash with car at Mount Coolum

A 12-year-old cyclist suffered life-threatening head injuries after being struck by a car on a Sunshine Coast street.

A 12-year-old boy was fighting for his life after he collided with a car while riding his bike along a tree-lined Sunshine Coast street.

Emergency crews rushed to the crash on Tanah St West, Mount Coolum, at 5.38pm on Saturday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the boy was flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was uninjured.

On Sunday morning, a hospital spokesperson said the boy was in a stable condition.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the Forensic Crash Unit were investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Police are appealing to anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to reach out to them.
