Sunshine Coast breaking news: Fire crews battle Maroochydore unit blaze

Two women have been taken to hospital, one with burns to her feet, after a fire erupted in their Sunshine Coast unit early Sunday morning.

Two women were forced to rush from their Sunshine Coast unit this morning after a fire erupted in their building.

Fire crews rushed to Main Rd at Maroochydore after a fire broke out in a unit about 5.30am on Sunday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews fought to control the blaze which started in one of the unit’s rooms.

The spokeswoman said all occupants were out of the building when they arrived, with firefighters extinguishing the fire by 6.15am.

She said crews were still on the scene on Sunday morning checking the adjoining units and dampening hotspots.

A woman in her 80s was treated for smoke inhalation was transported stable to Buderim Private Hospital.

Another woman in her 90s also suffered from smoke inhalation along with minor burns to her feet and was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

It’s understood the fire began in one of the bedrooms.

Major delays are expected for highway travellers after a car erupted into flames on the Sunshine Coast.

Emergency crews rushed to the Tibrogargan Creek southbound bridge along the Bruce Hwy at Beerburrum after receiving reports of a car fire at 8.20am on Saturday.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the car was stopped on the left hand shoulder of the road and was “well involved”, forcing traffic down to one lane.

The spokeswoman said it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

A Queensland Fire Communications spokeswoman said the blaze was extinguished by fire crews, while paramedics were not called.

Friday – Three people rushed to hospital following crash on busy road

Three people have been rushed to hospital with injuries following a two-vehicle, one-bicycle smash on the Sunshine Coast early this morning.

Three stable patients were transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital following a two-vehicle and bicycle crash on Bradman Ave, at Maroochydore, at 6.30am.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a woman in her 40s had a shoulder injury, a woman in her 60s suffered back pain, and a man in his 40s suffered a chest injury.

Wednesday – Man flown to hospital after rolling lawnmower in hinterland

An elderly man has been flown to hospital after rolling his lawnmower in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Paramedics rushed to the Reesville property near Maleny about 12pm after a man aged in his 70s rolled his lawnmower.

The RACQ LifeFlight rescue helicopter was tasked and arrived at the property on a nearby road about 1pm.

The aeromedical crew worked with Queensland Ambulance Service crews to treat the man for arm and leg injuries.

He was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

It was the second rescue mission for the Sunshine Coast crew on Wednesday after a 24-year-old man was flown to hospital following a car accident near Gin Gin.

A 32-year-old Bundaberg woman sadly died at the scene of the crash, while a nine-year-old girl was also flown to hospital in a critical condition.

Tuesday – Rider suffers horror leg injury in hinterland motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist has suffered a horror leg injury in a crash in the Noosa hinterland.

Emergency services rushed to Pound Rd at Pomona about 4pm on Tuesday after the rider crashed his vehicle into some rocks.

A Queensland Ambulance service spokeswoman said paramedics were treating the man in his 30s for a significant leg injury, and believed he was stable.

He was taken to hospital.

Monday – Woman rushed to hospital following car rollover

A woman has been rushed to hospital following a horror car rollover on the Sunshine Coast just before 3am this morning.

Paramedics were on scene a single-vehicle rollover at Buderim this morning, just before 3am.

A QAS spokesman said a stable female was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with facial injuries, following the single-vehicle rollover on Karawatha Street and Dixon Road, at 2.45am.

Queensland Police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were also on scene.
