A Forest Glen tyre-fitter has copped a fine after video his partner took of his “reckless driving” involving multiple burnouts featured on A Current Affair.

Thomas Michael Gething-Smith, 19, was fined $1200 with a driving disqualification of one year and three months in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police prosecutor Mick Ruddiman said police found Gething-Smith with 3g of marijuana at Forest Glen on March 16, 2022.

They then searched through his phone and found 24 videos of him hooning in 2021.

One of the videos showed Gething-Smith doing a large burnout near Caloundra Rd, Caloundra, and Corbould Park.

“The burnout was such that a nearby intersection began to fill with white smoke and the defendant has then began to rotate the vehicle in a circular motion several times,” Sergeant Ruddiman said.

“Either side of where the burnout was happening were two service stations and there were people standing watching the defendant commit the offence.”

Sergeant Ruddiman told the court another video showed further burnouts at Baringa where smoke once again filled the road way.

“It is dangerous and stupid behaviour and it can have massive consequences,” he said.

“It is reckless and endangering not only himself but members of the public.”

The court heard Gething-Smith was hit with karma soon after the offending when the car he used was stolen.

Solicitor Brent King said his client was employed as a tyre-fitter up until recently when he lost the job “partly as a result” of his behaviour.

“I am instructed that this offending was reported on by A Current Affair,” Mr King said.

Gething-Smith pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous operation, possessing drugs and possessing a utensil.

No convictions were recorded.
