A major global accommodation chain has revealed plans to build a 160-room hotel equipped with a rooftop restaurant and sky bar in a local coastal suburb.
The Holiday Inn and Suites Caloundra will feature 160 hotel rooms, including 33 suites and all-day restaurant and lobby cafe located at 51-55 Bulcock St.
Director of IHG Hotels and Resorts, Cameron Burke, said the hotel was expected to be popular among families and business travellers alike.
“We’re delighted to be bringing our Holiday Inn & Suites brand to the Sunshine Coast and thrilled to be partnering with Felix Capital on this exciting hotel in Caloundra,” Mr Burke said.
“As part of the world’s largest hotel brand family, Holiday Inn’s inimitable hallmarks strongly align to the approachability and leisure-orientated nature of the Sunshine Coast market.”
The Caloundra development will mark the 10th Queensland hotel for the company and the second for the Sunshine Coast region following the opening of Holiday Inn Maroochydore.
According to IHG the development is expected to open in early 2028.
The hotel will also involve a IHG partnership with venture firm Felix Capital for the first time.
CEO at Felix Capital, Michael Maroun, said he expected the development to become the “crown jewel of the region”.
“Sunshine Coast boasts an abundance of opportunity for the community, and we are proud to be making our mark in Caloundra. Our vision aligns with the Holiday Inn brand as we bring to market the area’s first international hotel, offering an accommodation, dining, leisure and business precinct that is modern, affordable and convenient,” Mr Maroun said.
“Felix Capital is pleased to have partnered with IHG to see this revolutionary project come to life while creating hundreds of new jobs and showing Queensland, Australia and the world the beauty of the Sunshine Coast. We believe this is going to be the crown jewel of the region.”
IHG operates approximately 6,300 hotels in more than 100 countries.
