A photo of a group gathering at a Noosa region Anzac Day service has caused a stir online after it was posted with the promise of putting them under a marquee next year.

The photo of the service taking place in Tewantin, on April 25, had already received more than 500 reactions and more than 50 comments within three hours of it being posted to the Noosa Community Notice Board on Facebook.

“Our old diggers sit in the burning sun,” the post said.

“Thanks all you you (sic) sacrificed.

“I’ll pay for a marquee for you next year.”

Many in the comments section agreed the group should have had shade, and promised to donate to help buy a marquee or donate their time to set one up next year.

“I thought it a bit rough also having them in the hot sun,” one commenter said.

“Lovely service.”

Another commenter suggested fundraising during the year to ensure some shade for next year.

“Maybe we could set up charity boxes at chemists/local bank/bakeries etc where peeps can pop in their coins it’ll all add up?” they said.

One commenter compared the situation to her home.

“Gosh even here in rural NSW all our small towns have marquees set up for our returned soldiers,” she said.

Others suggested schools, the SES or other organisations may have one that could be borrowed next year.

The Tewantin Noosa RSL Sub Branch and the Tewantin Noosa RSL have been contacted for comment.
