Sunshine Motorway, Coolum Beach blocked after horror head-on crash

A head-on collision involving a four-wheel drive on the Sunshine Motorway has brought traffic to a standstill and left one person fighting for their life, as a large section of the busy road is blocked off.

A serious head-on smash involving a four-wheel drive on the Sunshine Motorway has brought traffic to a standstill and left a person with life-threatening chest injuries.

A Queensland police spokesman said the crash happened on the Sunshine Motorway on ramp at Coolum Beach on Saturday afternoon.

He said early indications were that the vehicles involved had collided head-on.

The crash has severely impacted both lanes of the motorway, with police warning drivers the road is expected to be shut for some time.

A Queensland ambulance spokeswoman said there were initially three people trapped in the cars, one being a four-wheel drive, when crews first arrived on scene at about 3.30pm.

Patients include a man in his 70s, woman in her 40s and a man in his 40s.
