From elevated beachside homes to countryside escapes the best builds of the year on the Sunshine Coast have been revealed.
The annual Sunshine Coast Architecture Awards were held on Friday night, where the Australian Institute of Architects Awards Jury revealed the top homes of 2024.
Among the award winners were a Mooloolah River home, a modern Kiamba Valley farmhouse retreat and multi-generation beach house.
The regional project of the year was awarded to the multi-generational, Corymbia house, designed by Tim Ditchfield Architects.
“Such resolved configuration, including the relegation of the single garage to the back of the site, enables both its joyful habitation by the grandparents alone and its adaptation into a universally accessible, intergenerational home,” the jury said of the Sunshine Coast beach house.
“The detailing is skilfully resolved, and the materials are appropriate and expressive of traditional Sunny Coast beach houses.”
The building of the year award was presented to Bombala, designed by Sealand Architects, nestled on the Mooloolah River.
“(It is) a masterclass in designing to and for microsite conditions,” the jury said.
“Quiet and unassuming in its street presence, this house reveals itself and the available views slowly and purposefully upon entry.”
The Kiamba Valley Farmhouse by Aspect Architecture was crowned house of the year at the awards on Friday night.
“The home is well considered and beautifully crafted, focused on the family core and the practicalities of a working farmhouse,” the jury said.
“While acting as a retreat and respite from the toils of farm life, the natural environment radiates its constant presence, even in the most private, protected areas of the home.”
Other notable designs included the Moffat Beach House, the first cross-laminated timber home in Queensland, which was built in just seven days.
