A beloved family cat, who had gone missing for more than a week, was found by a Sunshine Coast vet with a bullet lodged in its abdomen after being shot.
Roelof van der Merwe operated on tabby cat Sir Puddin Stacks after he was shot in suspected animal cruelty incident.
Owners Cooper Morgenstern and Mikaela Colquhoun were hoping the shooting was just an accident, but suspect it wasn’t, after Sir Puddin Stacks was shot in the chest after going missing for 12 days.
Ms Colquhoun said it was out of character for their “little survivor” to go missing.
“Missing for 12 days just to show up in the dark morning hours emaciated and shot in the chest,” she said.
“He had an abscess that needed to go down with antibiotics and after a few days went in for surgery.”
Three-year-old Sir Puddin Stacks was taken to the Southern Cross Veterinarians Woodford Monday, May 20, after he had disappeared.
Shockingly, X-rays revealed he had been shot. There was a bullet lodged in his chest, narrowly avoiding vital organs.
“We’re hoping however it happened it was an accident and not purposeful,” Ms Colquhoun said.
“I can understand getting annoyed at cats if they’re being a menace, but you still got to be pretty sad and mad to want to take away its life.
“Our poor boy is too domesticated to deal with the full brunt of the wilds outside of the fence line.
“He was so lucky! Our prayers were definitely heard.”
Dr Roelof noticed a limp on one of the front legs and then found the bullet, before he was able to extract it in an operation on May 24.
“The vets at SC Woodford where fantastic and Sir Puddin is getting better more and more each day,” Ms Colquhoun said.
Sir Puddin Stacks is expected to make a full recovery.
