Man arrested by police at Kawana Shopping World

A man has been arrested at a major Queensland shopping centre after he allegedly emerged from a store with scissors threatening to “kill everyone”. Watch his arrest here.

A man has been arrested after he allegedly armed himself and made threats to “kill everyone” at a major Sunshine Coast shopping centre.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a middle-aged man had caused a disturbance at the Kawana Shoppingworld about 11.40am Friday, May 31.

The man was arrested and is assisting police with inquiries.

Footage of the arrest shows two police officers and a civilian pinning the man to the ground outside the shopping centre.

The spokeswoman said the man had been armed with scissors and making threats before he was restrained by members of the public and then arrested.

No one at the shopping centre was injured.

A neighbouring shop owner said they heard a “huge commotion” and went to the store next door to see where the smashing came from.

“As I got to the front of the store, a crazed man came with a pair of scissors saying he was ‘f----ing going to kill everyone,’” she said.

The owner ran back to her store, ensured her customers were safe and closed the doors.

Another two shop assistants from a nearby store said they suddenly heard screaming and saw people running out of Woolworths.

One of the assistants said all the shops quickly began closing and they moved to do the same.

The other said she had been inside Woolworths when she and other customers were instructed to head to the back of the store during the commotion.

The shopping centre returned to normal within half an hour, the pair said.
