Sunshine Coast teen motorbike rider charged after Bokarina raid

An 18-year-old is facing several charges including firearms after a police raid related to a series of alleged wild motorbike rides across a stretch of beachside Sunshine Coast roads.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged series of wild motorcycle stunts along a busy coastal stretch of road.

Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol officers charged the man over a series of alleged incidents over the past month.

The man was allegedly seen driving dangerously on a motorbike on Oceanic Dr, Bokarina on February 10 and March 14, while he was also allegedly spotted riding dangerously on Nicklin Way, Minyama on February 11.

Police will allege his stunts included driving on the wrong side of the road, in a bike lane and performing dangerous manoeuvres, while on an unregistered, uninsured and defective motorbike.

A search warrant was carried out at a Bokarina home on Wednesday, March 22 where police will allege a firearm and ammunition was found, along with video recordings of the wild rides.

An 18-year-old man was taken into custody and a motorbike seized.

The man was charged with three counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, drive uninsured vehicle, driving without a licence, defective light vehicle and unregistered vehicle and one count each of unlawful possession of a Category C weapon and authority required to possess explosives (ammunition).

The man was due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on April 14.

Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol office in charge Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho said it was a timely reminder to adhere to road rules, after 19 motorcycle riders already this year had lost their lives on Queensland roads.

The most recent on the Sunshine Coast was 19-year-old Hayden Webb who tragically died after a horror crash between a motorbike and a car in Woombye on Tuesday, March 21.

Investigations into that crash are ongoing.
