A well known Sunshine Coast SES volunteer, known for her kind heart and dedication to the local community, has tragically been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.
Meg Rudder, who has volunteered for 20 years with the SES, was delivered the shock news December last year.
Ms Rudder, who is in her 60s and lives at Mooloolah Valley, was previously working as an assistant nurse at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
One of her close friends Rebecca Bowman is fundraising money to support her during this difficult period.
“She has always gone above and beyond for everyone else,” Ms Bowman said.
“Meg is a person who always helps others and never asks for anything in return.”
Ms Bowman recently visited her friend following the diagnosis only to discover her bathroom was in desperate need of repairs.
“It’s not safe and atrocious... she’s too unwell to do anything,” Ms Bowman said.
“Her shower is falling apart, the toilet is broken and leaks, her sink is rusty, and the doors and windows have had water damage and need replacing. The bank won’t give her a loan to get it fixed because she has cancer.
“Due to Meg’s illness she cannot afford fix these concerns. I would love to be able to help her out so she can have a safe, sterile bathroom so she can focus on her treatment and get her back doing what she loves, wearing that orange uniform.”
The brave volunteer has undergone her first stage of chemotherapy but has had her second delayed.
“She had sepsis a couple of weeks ago,” Ms Bowman said.
“Despite everything she’s been through she still has her sense of humour about her.
“She didn’t ask for our help and never would but I got together with some of our other SES friends, we had to do something.
“Meg is an amazing, kind hearted woman who goes above and beyond for everyone.
“If anyone would like to contribute please know that every little bit would be much appreciated.”
