A mother has recalled the terrifying moment an armed man attempted to break into and steal her son’s car on the Sunshine Coast.

Police are investigating following a Woombye carjacking on Blackall St where a car window was smashed.

Tam McKay said her son was inside the car when it happened about 6.45pm, Wednesday night, May 22, and has called for witnesses to come forward.

“Did anyone witness or have any CCTV footage of the undesired male, that tried to hijack my son’s car tonight wielding a metal weapon in Woombye?” She said online.

“My boys were fast thinking, locked their doors and have thankfully got away unharmed, however smashed his back window as they tried to escape.

Her pleas were met with support from the community.

“Hope your boys are OK,” Susan Brown said.

“That’s so scary. I’m glad they are okay,” Renee Jones said.

“How frightening for them,” Janelle L. Sanders said.

“There certainly are some weirdos out there these days – just so scary.”

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed police were investigating a wilful damage incident after being called to Blackall St, Woombye at about 6.50pm on May 22.

“Initial investigations indicate that a man was sitting in his car on the side of the road when another man, not known to him, approached the car.

“The man in the car began to drive away but the other man reportedly hit the car with a bat, damaging one window.”

Investigations are ongoing.
