Sunshine Coast, Noosa Covid-19 cases: More than 1000 confirmed overnight

Residents have been urged to “stay calm” as Covid-19 case numbers continue to surge across the Sunshine Coast and Noosa.

Queensland CHO reveals state peak about 'two weeks away'

Residents have been urged to do what they can to slow the spread of Covid-19 as Sunshine Coast and Noosa’s cases rise by more than a thousand in 24 hours.

Noosa Shire Council Mayor Clare Stewart said Noosa recorded more than 1300 Covid-19 cases since Christmas.

She encouraged residents to “stay calm” and do what they can to slow the spread of the virus.

“Just as we’ve done many times during this pandemic, wear a mask if you head out, and avoid crowded places wherever you can,” Ms Stewart said.

“Work from home if you’re able to and check-in on vulnerable relatives or neighbours to see if they need any essential supplies so that they can stay at home.”

Noosa MP Sandy Bolton is in isolation after she tested positive to the virus.

On Friday she said she was on day 11 and still experiencing symptoms.

Ms Stewart said the council was working to provide rapid antigen tests for businesses to help them get on top of outbreaks and reduce staffing impacts.

“It’s natural to be worried, but our vaccination rate in Noosa is above 95 per cent and the health experts reassure us that for the majority of vaccinated people who contract the virus, the symptoms will be mild and typically only last a few days,” she said.

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath confirmed on Saturday morning that the state recorded six more Covid-19 deaths, including one being a person aged in their 20s.

“Any loss of life is sad and I do want to pass on my condolences to those families,” she said.

Across Queensland there were 649 people being treated in hospitals as well as 46 in intensive care.

Meanwhile from 1am Saturday anyone entering Queensland no longer needs to show a border pass or a negative rapid antigen test result.
