Sunshine Coast Grammar School allegedly targeted by vandals, building damaged

A Sunshine Coast private school was forced to close one of its buildings following an alleged rampage from vandals who damaged furniture, televisions and windows, with two teenage boys arrested.

A prestigious Sunshine Coast school was forced to close one of its buildings following an alleged rampage from vandals.

Police allege two teenage boys, aged 15 and 17, entered the grounds of the Sunshine Coast Grammar School late on Tuesday night and damaged the administration and prep buildings.

It is alleged by police the two boys smashed and forced their way through a window and caused “extensive damage” to the buildings before they fled when officers arrived at the school about 12.30am on Wednesday.

It is understood the vandals allegedly destroyed furniture, TVs and windows.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the boys were identified and arrested later that day.

Both boys were charged with entering a premises to commit an indictable offence by break, while the 17-year-old was additionally charged with stealing.

The 15-year-old appeared in Maroochydore Children’s Court on Thursday while the 17-year-old will appear at a later date.

Sunshine Coast Grammar School sent an email to staff to say the administration building would be temporarily closed.

A Sunshine Coast Grammar School spokeswoman said an investigation was conducted by police and the building was reopened.

In the email, staff were told the school would operate as normal following the vandalism including the prep building.
