A prestigious Sunshine Coast school has spoken out to address rumours a group of girls involved in a distressing incident were students at the school.

Sunshine Coast Grammar School sent an email to parents on Thursday afternoon stating the three girls involved in the alleged torture of another teenage girl were not from the school, despite rumours posted online.

A spokesperson for the school said the claims the girls involved in the incident were students were untrue.

“Sunshine Coast Grammar School can confirm that reports regarding the alleged assault of a teenage Noosa girl does not involve students at the school, despite misinformation being reported on the internet,” they said.

“We have become aware that video of this incident is spreading quickly over all social media channels and our school has been tagged in some of these posts.

“The nature of this video has the capacity to cause upset and distress to students and our concern is to ensure the wellbeing of our students at this time.”

The email from the school’s principal Anna Owen, seen by the Daily, informed parents sharing the content was a criminal offence and to monitor their child’s exposure to social media videos.

“Accordingly, we ask that parents have a conversation with your children about this matter, to check on their welfare whilst also stressing the importance of being selective with social media viewing. Some of our students may have had the footage inadvertently pop into their feed,”

Three girls aged 12, 13 and 14 have been charged over the incident that took place on March 11, where a13-year-old girl was allegedly held against her will in a Tewantin home and tortured.

They have been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, deprivation of liberty and robbery while in company used personal violence.
