A 13-year-old girl who was allegedly lured to a Sunshine Coast home and tortured for hours has opened up about the alleged “traumatic” attack.
Queensland Police confirmed on Wednesday afternoon three girls had been charged over the incident, which involved the young female victim being tied up, knifed, burnt and hit with bottles in disturbing footage shared online.
The horrifying alleged attack occurred in a home in Tewantin earlier in March during a sleepover.
The Courier-Mail reported the girl’s face was “unrecognisable” after the alleged attack, and she was forced to spend a week in the hospital, suffering from a stab wound to the knee, a fractured wrist and severe swelling.
Girl breaks silence
In a moving interview with 7NEWS, the young victim and her mother spoke candidly about the incident.
“I (didn’t) care what (they’d) done to me. I just wanted to go home and see my little brother and see my mum,” the girl said, adding that she “wasn’t even thinking” properly during her ordeal.
“It was traumatic, really. It will take me a long time to recover from this.”
The mother also opened up about the traumatic incident.
“I have visions of my daughter on the floor, just seeing her face for the first time and the way she called out my name when she (saw) me,” she said.
“She was unrecognisable.”
Sister’s heartbreak
The victim’s sister spoke with Today co-host Karl Stefanovic by phone this morning, telling viewers the teen was “doing really well” and that “everybody is supporting her”.
“She has been given so much love … she is a very strong girl. Very headstrong. She is working on recovering and feeling well,” the sister said, adding her entire family was “distraught” over what had happened.
“I couldn’t even believe it. How could this happen? And just, yeah, like considering that it was like her supposed friends that did it, yeah, it broke all of our hearts.
“It’s absolutely brutal what happened.
“I was just so angry. Like it is really hard because she had reached a point where she was really happy. For this to happen to her, it’s just like … I just can’t even describe.”
Stefanovic then asked how the girl was recovering.
“I saw her two nights ago and she was having a laugh. I am sure like I don’t want to probe her too much … We are all just giving her love and just trying to build her back up,” the sister replied.
“She has handled the whole thing – she is so brave. And amazingly her face, it was like swollen to the size of a pumpkin she couldn’t see out her eyes.
“It has gone down and her body is healing. Physically she is healing. We are just so lucky that the injuries didn’t take her away from us.”
“Mum has been through hell. She is living on like three hours sleep. Yeah, she’s been doing everything that she can … it was like so hard for her.”
Victim’s desperate plea
Meanwhile, harrowing videos have also been posted online appearing to show parts of the frenzied alleged attack.
In one, the victim begs “please don’t” as the girls allegedly slap and yell at her, with one brandishing a knife. At one point, she attempts to leave the room, before being pulled back by the hair and struck by the knife.
In a separate clip, she pleads with the alleged attackers not to punch her in the eye, but it falls on deaf ears.
Thousands raised for traumatised’ victim
The victim’s mother has since set up a GoFundMe, with more than $27,000 already raised to support the teen.
The woman explained her daughter had “been through a lot recently, as I’m sure you’re all aware. She was (allegedly) viciously attacked by three people over hours of time, and was placed into hospital for recovery,” she wrote.
“This has not only been physically traumatising, but mentally as well.
“The kind words my daughter is receiving from you all is so much appreciated and we’re so very grateful to each and every one of you.”
